BPC-157 is the compound Dublin researchers ask about more than any other on this register — which is why it sits behind the first numbered door on our home page. Five entries, in a fixed order, because that's the order the questions actually arrive in. A researcher who skips straight to sourcing before understanding what the compound is, or what its research-only status actually means, ends up asking a supplier the wrong questions — and getting confident-sounding answers to all of them. The file works because it makes you walk through identity and status before documentation, the same way you'd want any credible source to.

File 01 · Identity — what BPC-157 actually is

What the compound is

BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide — a short chain of amino acids — modelled on a fragment first identified in human gastric juice. Its full designation, Body Protection Compound-157, hints at the research interest that first surrounded it: a substantial body of preclinical literature, almost entirely in animal models, examining tissue- and gut-related outcomes. That literature is real and published, and it is also exactly what it sounds like — early-stage, largely pre-clinical science, not a settled body of human clinical evidence.

That distinction matters more than most listings admit. A stable, well-characterised research peptide is not the same claim as a proven human therapeutic, and no supplier selling BPC-157 today is doing so as a licensed medicine. It's typically supplied as a lyophilised powder intended for laboratory reconstitution, sold and studied as a research chemical — which is the only context this file, or any Georgian Door guide, ever discusses it in.

BPC-157 is often mentioned alongside several other investigational peptides studied for related research questions — tissue- and recovery-adjacent research is a genuinely active field, and BPC-157 has more published preclinical literature behind it than most of the compounds it gets compared to. More published doesn't mean settled, and it certainly doesn't mean the leap from animal model to human outcome has been made. Treat the volume of research interest as a reason the compound is worth studying carefully, not as a substitute for reading the specific documentation behind whatever batch is actually in front of you.

File 02 · Status — research use only

What "research use only" actually protects you from

"Research use only" isn't small print to skim past. It's the honest description of what a supplier is legally offering: a laboratory compound for research applications, not a product intended, tested or labelled for use in or on the human body. BPC-157 hasn't been through the licensing process a prescription medicine requires, so it carries no marketing authorisation in Ireland or anywhere else — the HPRA has no approved product file for it, because none exists to approve.

For a Dublin-based researcher, that framing should shape every question you put to a supplier. A seller who talks about it as though it were an approved treatment, or who is vague about the research-only distinction when you raise it directly, is already telling you something about how carefully they handle the rest of their documentation too.

It helps to separate two different questions that get run together. Whether a compound can lawfully be imported or held for genuine research purposes is one question. Whether it's an approved medicine that a doctor can prescribe or a pharmacist can dispense is a completely different one — and for BPC-157, the answer to the second question is no, everywhere, not just in Ireland. That's not unusual or specific to this compound; it's the standard position across the entire research-peptide category, and any supplier presenting it otherwise is misrepresenting what they're selling.

File 03 · What Dublin buyers actually ask

From the courier reality to the batch documentation

Two kinds of questions come up again and again from Dublin-based researchers, and they sit at opposite ends of the process.

The first is logistical: will the parcel actually turn up, and on what timeline. A domestically fulfilled order tends to move through familiar courier networks and lands within a day or two, tracked the whole way. An order placed with a supplier outside Ireland or the EU travels further, can sit with Revenue for customs clearance — and may attract customs duty or VAT depending on declared value — and moves on a slower, less predictable timeline; An Post or whichever carrier picks it up on this end is only the last leg of a longer journey. Neither route says anything about what's actually in the vial. It's just the honest logistics, the same picture our home page walks through in more detail.

The second question is the one that actually matters: does this specific batch have its own documentation. Buyers ask whether the Certificate of Analysis they've been shown is genuinely tied to the lot they'd receive, whether the testing lab is named and independent of the seller, and whether the numbers on the page — purity, identity — are the result of a real test rather than a template reused across every batch a supplier has ever sold. That second question is the one worth spending your attention on.

There's a third question underneath both of those, which is really about recourse: if a batch turns out to be wrong, who do you actually have any leverage over? A domestic supplier operating under Irish consumer protections is a very different proposition from a supplier on the other side of the world who has already been paid and has no obligation you can meaningfully enforce. That's not a reason to rule out ordering from further afield — plenty of well-documented batches travel a long way — but it's a real difference worth weighing alongside the courier timeline, not instead of it.

Three things to check before anything else

A full walkthrough of every field on a Certificate of Analysis is its own subject — our editorial methodology sets out the complete five-criteria standard we hold every guide to. For BPC-157 specifically, here is the high-level version worth knowing before you look at any document a supplier hands you.

Start with the lot number: it should appear on the COA and match what's printed on the product you'd actually receive. Then check purity, reported by HPLC, with the method stated rather than a bare percentage sitting on its own. Then check identity — confirmation by LC-MS that the molecule tested actually matches the expected mass of BPC-157's sequence, not just a purity figure for "a peptide." A document missing any of those three is incomplete, whatever else it claims.

Each of those three exists to close a specific gap. The lot number closes the gap between the paper and the physical vial — without it, you have no way to prove the document even describes what you're holding. The HPLC purity figure closes the gap between "contains BPC-157" and "contains mostly BPC-157," a meaningfully different claim once you consider that impurities, residual solvents and degradation products can make up the rest. The LC-MS identity check closes the last and most important gap: purity tells you how clean the sample is, but says nothing about whether it's the right molecule in the first place. A wrongly-identified but very "pure" compound is arguably the worse outcome of the two.

File 05 · Red flags

Signals worth pausing on

A handful of signals repeat across the weaker listings we come across:

  • A Certificate of Analysis that reads identically batch after batch, with no lot-specific numbers ever changing.
  • No named testing laboratory, or a "lab" that turns out to be an in-house team rather than an independent third party.
  • A purity figure with no method attached — "99% pure" means very little without HPLC behind it.
  • Pressure to complete the purchase before you've actually seen documentation, rather than just been told it exists.
  • Pricing dramatically below the range you'd expect for a properly tested batch — a reason to look harder, not to celebrate a bargain.
  • A COA image that looks re-scanned, re-typed, or edited, rather than issued as a clean original document from the lab.
  • A supplier who won't name the testing laboratory at all when asked directly, or answers with a vague "our partner lab" instead of a name you could look up.

None of these individually proves a seller is dishonest — a re-scanned document, for instance, might just be a scanning habit. Two or more together, though, particularly involving the lot number or the lab's identity, are worth treating as a real reason to ask further questions before paying anyone.
